In his prime, Beard buddy Peter “cap’n BB” Jones was no stranger to casual sax. On this long-lost compendium, he collected a series of unbelievably classic songs that featured unexpected saxophone solos (all by bands that don’t employ full-time horns).
While brass is present in tunes by the likes of Lou Reed, Galaxie 500, the Cure, and the Clash, the sax is most often an afterthought, making this less a novelty comp and more a hot soundtrack for summer soirées.
I’m giving Jones away at his wedding this weekend, which signals the end of his improv era. Sorry ladies, no more sax… casual or otherwise.
