Moondog – “Maybe”

An outsider legend singular in both approach and execution, composer Moondog was a scourge of the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s, only outdone by Sun Ra in terms of all-around oddness. If not for the viking hat and Rip Van Winkle beard, he might have become a concert hall staple in the realm of contemporary classical.
But, this homeless(?) wanderer chose the road more weirded. So, let’s take it slow. In a short two minutes, Moondog’s “Maybe” syncs an airy island aesthetic with elements of chamber pop and contemporary classical, using nuanced rhythms and a chorus of interlacing vocalists to create a warm, if deceptively complex, atmosphere.
