“Paperboy” Reed – Nights Like This

Rather than emulate classic albums, neo-soul wunderkind Eli “Paperboy” Reed cut his teeth backing the aging incarnations of a series of obscure, lost ’60s acts. While his 2011 debut painted a masterful mirror image of a lost era, Nights Like This imagines the soul of a future age. Like Janelle Monae and Cee-Lo, Reed explores pop structures, charging lesser represented sounds with an idiosyncratic accessibility. In the process he kicks up an awful lot of dust, inspiring bubblegum brains, rocking the party, and swiveling those legs into action.
