Often described as the first all-black ’60s rock act to make an impact, Black Merda made no bones about their influences, or their feelings about racial divides in America. Having previously back acts like the Temptations and Wilson Pickett, the band’s members dropped pro chops into their debut, a soulful, funky collection of psyched-out cuts the vein of Jimi Hendrix. A trip, indeed.
