While it is easy to pigeonhole Asia’s rich musical tradition into a single category of the exotic, its an enormous disservice to the open-eared explorer. This quick slate of Chinese and Taiwanese ballads and crooners (mostly from the middle part of the 20th century) fuses torch song, jazz tropes and French pop elements with light allusions to the continent’s heritage. Western ears need fear not: this one was custom-made for our ears.
