International Harvester – “I Mourn You”

An outgrowth of the equally obscure (and similarly nerd-adored) Pärsson Sound, International Harvester’s self-titled 1968 album is at turns minimal and orchestral. Prefiguing the Polyphonic Spree and Flaming Lips, the Swedish ensemble beams through a prism of experimental raga, beguiling with a trance of seemingly structureless psychedelics. Shapes shift, but rarely unravel: the band’s spiritual quest at times inscrutable, but also beguiling.
