Fractured, if not fractious, works, Chopin’s Preludes are short character sketches offering a range of beginnings with which to begin. It’s a stark piano work without orchestra adornment, subtle in its splenditude, but still quite alive with color.
Perhaps the best musician to ever render the works, pianist Géza Anda is precise in his motion, exact in his advance, and passionate in his interpretation. For years I’ve used this fantastic suite as a deep and abiding aid to quiet contemplation.
