Disintegration was the greatest and, arguably only, true synthesis of legendary ’80s mopers the Cure’s early and late eras. Tunes like “Plainsong” and “The Same Deep Water as You” revel in the dark atmospheres and heavy reverbs that would come to define the band, while club hits like “Fascination Street” and “Love Song” expertly lush out the their early propensity for pop. “Pictures of You”, meanwhile, combines both approaches in one of the most entrancing break-up songs ever written.
