DJ Shadow – Brainfreeze

Whether in stock, or just streaming in store, we’ve got you covered with real, human-generated recommendations straight from the store stereo. We do not receive anything if you buy. All recommendations are our own. (This for fun!)

Although DJ Shadow’s salad days as a producer appear to be behind him, his live collaborations with turntablist Cut Chemist remain vibrant and inspired. The partnership first built momentum with 2001’s Brainfreeze mix CD, which found the two vinyl obsessives cutting their way through a series of obscure, catchy — and occasionally kitschy — funk and soul 45s. It’s a wickedly improvised performance on four or more decks, a lot of rare records, and ideas spliced on the fly, with deep funk grooves, B-boy swagger, and the seasoned musicians’ pure showmanship underpinning it all. – Colin Nagy
