Even in Trent Reznor’s hey-day, the father of modern industrial music had other idols. Unrepentant godfathers, Coil were as uncompromising as they come, a dark, abrasive, necro-scatalogacally obsessed act yet unequaled. Yet, their approach to composition was as distinct and precise as the band was unhappy. Stripping the once-abrasive, yearning anger of the original, Coil’s remix reduces Reznor’s biggest hit to an act of quiet desperation desperate carrion call. Haunting, but not abrasive, there is a dark brooding beauty here, one that’s as close to accessible as Coil was ever going to get.
